The youth bulge is an evident trend in Kenya and Africa with projections on increased growth of the youth population. Constituting most of the population in Kenya; youth as the backbone of this nation holds the responsibility to change the future of the society. In recent years, youth activists have increasingly been vocal on social and environmental issues with recognizable results in the transformation of our societies towards a low carbon and climate-resilient future. Nonetheless, a myriad of risks and challenges still face the Kenyan youth, and developing appropriate strategies, policies, and programs to mitigate the risks and challenges must be a priority for the government. The failure of this could have detrimental economical, political, environmental, cultural, and social consequences.

This goes without saying that engaging this large segment of the Kenyan population in Environmental Management and Climate Change Mitigation is, therefore, no longer a choice but a necessity in the Environmental Protection and Climate Change Mitigation Initiatives.

GreenKenya Investment Corporation advocates for the engagement of the youth through empowerment, education, and employment. To this, we join the Earth Day Organization in celebrating Earth Day 2021: Three Days of Climate Action with April 20th Live Global Youth Summit led by Earth Uprising in collaboration with My Future My Voice, OneMillionofUs, and hundreds of youth Activists at 2:30 PM Eastern Time 20th April 2021, with discussions and speeches from the likes of Greta Thunberg. On, April 21st, we will dwell on the crucial role of Education in combating climate change, and on the third day, April 22nd, the Earth Day Event the emphasis will be on this year’s theme ‘Restore Our Earth’. We call upon the youth: -the leaders of tomorrow, to participate to push towards a better tomorrow.
